QUARTER 1

In the beginning, we started off by reading some small articles. One article was revolving around the speeches of Jefferson and Stanton. Jefferson was stating the issues on how every man should be able to be equal to any other man. Stanton on the other hand was stating the exact same topic in her speech but with a slight twist. She starts discussing the issue on how women are looked at as a 'low' being and she claims how in many occasions we have no right to have voices to our opinion. This is how things were back then and the people wanted to be living in the "American Dream" image that they have dreamt of. That every US citizen should be able to succeed in their dreams by hard working. We also began reading that infamous 'I Have A Dream' speech.

We also had to engage in a columnist project. We had to pick our very first columnist and whichever columnist we have chosen, we would then read 5 of their columns and discuss it on a Precis Paper. My columnist that i chose was a women named Michelle Malkin who is a conservative blogger. In each of her articles i have come to the conclusion that she uses ethos in many of her work. Michelle would not have a problem with stating situations so bluntly once stating her opinion on the topic.

This novel follows a bondman by the name of Nick about his encounters he had living next to the wealthy man Jay Gatsby. Gatsby was madly in love with Nick's cousin Daisy even though she has a husband. This story revolves around the american dream idea. There are many problems and altercations that occur during the novel and it shows their reaction on reality. Many authors express the American Dream as not a 'perfect' sounding life that everybody is expecting and wanting. In fact, they portray that image in a completely opposite way. I honestly agree with that perspective because not everything will be picture perfect, no matter if you are rich or poor. Gatsby was still wanting to have daisy by his side as a lover but she was married, having him un-happy. Also Tom who was Daisy's husband was cheating on her throughout the story with his mistress.

For Analysis essay that we had to participate in consisted of us having to compare and contrast the two articles from jefferson and stanton and seeing how they are both similar and how they both also differentiate from each other. I think for my next essay i could maybe use more evidence and state my thesis statement a little more clear.
We also had to experience the timed write, testing ourselves to see if we could do a full 5 paragraph essay with all the must haves that an essay needs to make it in the 5 or more advanced range. My favorite timed write that i believed i did average on was the argumentative essay on the common life. I used many of my personal opinionated comments on this essay and added some background knowledge to support my claims.

Overall, i think quarter 1 has prepared me for what is to come. By that i specifically am directing it towards the time writing, essay writing, and having to annotate while being able to complete a precis paper. This quarter helped me wrap my mind on what AP language is about and how to maintain the skill to turn in work on time and creating essays within 40 minutes. I learned about what american dream consist of and the know;edge behind great gatsby. I can honestly say that some parts in my essay i have to work on, but other then that i think everything else is in tact. Thats enough typing up for now, bring it on quarter 2.
QUARTER 3
Some evidence from this novel that makes it ethical is when they begin talking about soma. Soma was the drug everyone took in order to feel better and just be happy again. Soma made peoples problems nonexistent for an amount of time until the problems resurfaced again.
Another ethical point that happened is when children played provocative games and were allowed to have sex at that young age.

The argumentative essay explains how the quote that the author posted was either right or wrong. I argued saying it was right what he was saying and how it was understandable.
I did 1700 talking about Samuel Johnson.
Overall, quarter 3 has been a challenge along with all the other quarters previously. A positive outcome is that this will prepare me for the test to come in 4th quarter. Instead of being clueless, I think i now have some or most of the knowledge i need inorder to continue on strong in the next quarter to come.
